The English Club of Govt. Vocational Higher Secondary School, Paruthippally has taken
up the important task of nourishing the child as a writer from an early age. With
the inspiration from one of India’s finest minds, we have come out with an
English Magazine titled ‘THE ENGLISH
RIDER’. As it is the need of the hour to promote English in all strands of
life and considering the enthusiasm of the students to learn English, we
provide umpteen number of activities for language development. The Magazine was
brought out by the School English Club, as part of our efforts to provide
students, opportunities to get exposure to the English language. The aim was to
share the students’ experiences in a way that develops their English language
skills and enable them for fearless expression of their thoughts and ideas.
‘The English Rider’ is
probably the first of its kind published by a School in public sector. This
marks an epoch in the history of Kerala State Public Instruction. This noble
venture is a feather in the cap of the School English Club of our School
situated in the out-skirts of Thiruvananthapuram. English would still be a hard
nut to crack for many students, but not for the students of Govt.VHS School
Paruthippally. The key attraction of the Magazine, compiled and edited by the
students under the supervision of the faculties, is the detailed report of the interaction with Dr.APJ Abdul Kalam. The
article by the former fighter pilot M.P Anil Kumar ‘Focus it right’ will
inspire children by acquiring more wil-power and strength of mind. Articles by
language experts like Dr.Ilankumaran and O.K Haridas will definitely help
children enrich their English.

Prabhakar IAS, The English Rider marks the beginning of a new venture and
also continues to inspire many as a torch bearer. The first copy of the
magazine was handed over to Shri.C. Manoj, Tutor, DCE Thiruvananthapuram.
“Awesome... its really awesome to see a
Govt School come up with such a wonderful magazine“, Shri. Biju Sir exclaimed.
He asked them to listen to the BBC Radio-news, read English Newspaper regularly
and carry a pocket dictionary for easy reference. His inspiring speech
motivated the gathering. He added that the initiative of the English Club of
Govt.VHS School Paruthippally was a noble thing which should be emulated by
others. Students have decided to follow his advice in letter and spirit to
speak English without inhibition even if ridiculed.
The Magazine was released by Shri. Biju
Prabhakar IAS, in a grand function presided over by the School SMC
Chairman Sri K. Sudhakumar on 4th February 2014. Shri. T.R Shine Wills (Editor
– ENGLISH RIDER) introduced the magazine and Smt. Lisha S Thapas presented the
Club report. Jasna of Std 9D welcomed the gathering and Devika of 8E casted the
Vote of Thanks. Aravind and Panchami compered the function. Smt.PK Ivy,Smt.J Sija,
Shri.T.K BivinKumar, Shri.A.Shanavas Shri.Suresh Kumar, etc participated.
